Frustrated
Frustrated.
Photography is a form of art to me and art is a practice. I believe there are talented people but, it’s like the basketball coach Tim Notke once said, “hard work beats talent when talent refuses to work hard.” It takes nurturing your art to get better. To advance towards a goal or to just change in general.
I’ve been pretty frustrated with my photography lately. I didn’t set out to be a wildlife photographer. Given the choice, I wouldn’t be sitting in my backyard taking photos of song birds. Or even wandering the woods looking for animals.
Without a deep dive into how I got into photography, my true passion is documentary. But life circumstances are as they are. Today, I find myself living in a house in the woods with a family to take care of. Using the camera is what I love doing. So birds it is.
Where the frustration comes in, is when I do get the chance to go on a little photography adventure. Whether it’s in town or a city, I just can’t articulate through a photo how I’m feeling. Or what the scene is feeling. I’ve never had the chance to hone in that skill.
This past weekend, the family and I took a little trip to Mexico. Whereas we didn’t leave the resort (embarrassing I know), I did take the X-Pro2. I took photos despite not liking what I was shooting. Maybe after my kids are grown, I’ll get on the streets a bit more. Honestly, I’m not in any hurry to see my kids get big.
